Last Friday nite, PO, Sarong, ChocPot and I went to Alexis for dinner and to listen to Shayna Zaid, Malaysian aspiring artist in New York. The opening act started with this pretencious wanna be jazz, blues, hip hop all under the sky girl called HoneyMadu. She sounded just wrong and it was hard to grasp what it was but something just ain't right about her. I think part of it was her overly enthusiasm towards the music that she wanted to deliver was all mixed up and definetly her lack of finese and exquisiteness that any Jazz/Blues singer would have made her performance just weird. In short-she needs to go! It was really torturing listening to her in a funny way because quarter of the crowd seems pleased with her"singing ability", i think it was all her college friends!
Shayna on the other hand was pleasantly good. I wasn't impressed on the first 2 songs but after that, her music and voice sounded better and Amir Yusof presence, singing with her was good though at times, the music overpowered their voices. They blend well together nevertheless. PO off course being typical Malaysian had to picked up a call in the middle of all that and talked for like hours on the phone only later to walk outside to continue yabbing on the phone! Etiquette please!
Flips, PO's colleauge joined us as well and he seems like a nice guy. Well, anyone that buy us a bottle, is a nice guy rite!
