R U Better Off Single?

A colleuage had this conversation with me during lunch about being married versus single and how she felt that somehow society in general think that marriage is the thing of the past! Hmm....i am not an expert in this department but i would like to believe that it is not the thing of a past.

She believes that marriage has a way of making people grow up and think about the future. Though i do agree with her on that one but i do believe that not being married can also make you more mature in other ways too. She have this idea about being married and having kids and the contunity of her family generation and all that. Its very subjective topic for me as one idea or opinion does not necessarily reflect the wants and needs of another person's life.

I wish not to debate too much on that topic but i am aware that i do have many married friends that deliberatly imposing their ideas on unmarried or single friends. I am a selfish person ( I know that people) but hey selfish doesn't mean a bad thing rite! I can splurge on a fancy new wristwatch without having to explain myself (really my Tag of 10 years moves only every 5 seconds! WTF). I can stay out till late without "ET Phone Home" jokes, leave the toilet seat up, spending money for whatever without feeling guilty, etc. Serioulsy, single life still rocks.

Set that aside, i just believe one should do what makes one happy...as simple as that. Wanna more specific reasons as why all you single people out there should celebrate being single? Here are 10 fascinating reasons i've read from an article recently about being single:-

1. U have better body. Seriously in general, almost all my married friends are kindda chubbier and trust me chub is not in! No offense guys but it is true.
2. U r more likely to achieve great things when u have the time, the lack of familial responsibilities.
3. U do less housework.
4. U can do whatever u want with your money- including keeping it. Splurge on that pricey moisturizer or that obscenely large LCD and u do not need to justify yr purchase. Once u mix money with marriage, things change.
5. U less depressed. Although media often perpetuates the image of single people being down in the dumps, overall unmarried people tend to be happier...well if u r a woman that is. One report i read by WHO, indicated that married woman especially with kids, have a higher risk of depression than single woman and researchers at Uni of London found that single woman have fewer mental health issues! Hmmm..i don't think this apply to my single girlfriends somehow!
6. U have better friendship.
7. U have better sex. REALLY? Hmmm......
8. Yr travel tales r enviable.
9. U know yourself better and what u want out of relationship.
10.U r better rested and smarter.

i was about to leave a comment re item number 5, then i realised that im not single.. but im not married either wat.. heh. i think my 'mental health' does not change, single or whatnot :)

i think the test should be whether youre living and enjoying ur life. everything has its pros and cons and each person is different. there are issues when ure single, n issues when ure not. neither being married nor being single equal to being superhappy -- it can occur either way. its your life, you choose.

the thing is, issues always occur when another imposes their own 'mindset' to others. so all those makciks n pakciks (and closeted ones) who ask probing questions and impose 'normalness-cum-the-ideal-life-and-its-time-frame' test on others, stop it laaaa..

MBA,
My comment on Item no 1 - Setuju sangat & sebagai seorang yg single saya berkesempatan beriadah di "Gym" secara berjadual dan hasilnya "lean and a bit of muscular".

Nanti bila dah kawin...(tak tau bila tu!!) belum pasti dapat meluangkan masa di Gym seperti sekarang

p/s Protein Shake anyone!
